Have a Relaxing Weekend in Melbourne

Melbourne is Australia’s second largest city and one of the most beautiful cities not just Down Under, but in the whole world. After all, it takes a special kind of place to be crowned as the world’s best city to live in for the last 7 years straight. With so many amazing attractions, it would be impossible to visit them all in one weekend, but you can focus on a single aspect of this city’s numerous activities, such as having a relaxing and stress-free time. If your goal is to lay back and chill out, we’ve got you covered with some of Melbourne’s most interesting attractions where you can properly enjoy yourself and unwind.

Head to the beach

There are dozens of amazing beaches in Melbourne, but some stand out even more as places you absolutely have to see. The Sandown Street Beach, which the locals dubbed Brighton Dog Beach, is probably the best place in the entire city to come to with your pet. Here they can frolic among the dunes and hop in for a quick dip while you enjoy the amazing view of the Melbourne CBD (Central Business District), visible from the shore. Or you can hop to St Hilda Beach just a short tram ride from the CBD, where you can swim, windsurf or just lay back and soak up the sun. Not to mention, it can also boast some of the most breathtaking sunsets on the entire continent.

Go wine tasting

Although it’s not something people usually associate with Melbourne or Australia in general, the warm climate and fertile soil have produced some world class vineyards and wineries, such as the lovely Olivigna winery in Warrandyte. You can spend a relaxing afternoon with your family and friends walking the grounds, attending an Italian cooking class and of course, sampling some amazing wines together with delicious locally sourced, homemade food. This is definitely a dining experience that you will always remember fondly.

Take a walk in the park

Melbourne has some great parks and gardens where you can sit on the grass, enjoy the nice weather and leave your worries behind. South Yarra, which is very close to the CBD, offers two amazing parks – Como House and Gardens and the Royal Botanic Gardens, both of which are great places for a lazy weekend family picnic, while the latter also offers an outdoor cinema during the summer. Edinburgh Gardens in Fitzroy North is a popular destination for Melbourne’s youth and Albert Park has a beautiful and picturesque lake where you can take a selfie with the local swans or take a lovely walk or bike ride around the shoreline.

Treat yourself to a massage and spa

If lounging at the beach, tasting fine wines or a picnic in the park aren’t relaxing enough for you, then a trip to the spa for the ultimate relaxing treatment is the thing for you. There are too many quality spas in Melbourne to count, so you are covered no matter what kind of experience you are looking for. Japanese culture is very popular in Australia in general, so you will find no shortage of Japanese bath and massage packages. If meditation is more your style, then one of the many great yoga retreats will be perfect for you. Or you can try something new and head to a floatation therapy centre, where you are put in a pod with salt water that enables you to float and is ideal for releasing tension from your joints and muscles and reducing stress, in addition to numerous other benefits.

Different people prefer doing different things to relax, but Melbourne is such an amazing and diverse city that you will always be able to find a place that is right for you as well as your friends and family.
